1. Kinkaku-ji (Rokuoden 1, Kamigyō-ku, Kyoto, 602-0850) - The iconic Golden Pavilion is a must for anyone visiting Kyoto. Its shimmering golden exterior and serene pond reflection are simply breathtaking.
2. Fushimi Inari-taisha (68 Yamanouchi-chō, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, 612-0882) - Start your journey through the famous vermilion torii gates that snake up Mount Inari for a unique and unforgettable experience.
3. Gion District (Shijō-dōri Shimo-Yanagi-bashi Minami, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto 591-0867) - Step into Japan's most famous geisha district with its traditional wooden houses and narrow streets offering a glimpse of old Kyoto.
Start at Kinkaku-ji in the northern part of Kyoto. From there, take the JR Sagano Line to Inari Station (about 35 minutes), where Fushimi Inari-taisha is located nearby. After exploring Inari, hop on the Keihan Main Line and get off at Shijō Station in Gion, a roughly 20-minute ride away.

Kyoto's central location makes it relatively easy to reach from Kansai International Airport (KIX). A one-way N'Express bus costs approximately ¥2,150 and takes around 90 minutes directly into Kyoto Station. If you arrive at Osaka or Nagoya stations instead, the Shinkansen (bullet train) is an excellent option, costing roughly ¥3,700 from KIX to Kyoto in about 45 minutes. For optimal timing, aim for early morning arrivals and late afternoon departures to maximize daylight hours. Note that public transportation operates well into the night, so you can comfortably explore until around 8 PM before heading back to your connecting flight or train.
