🤫 Insider

Visit Gion Corner (Kan'ami Kobo Hall, Shijō-dōri Shimo-Yanagi-bashi Minami, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto 591-0867) after dark to see traditional Japanese arts and crafts demonstrations. It’s a less crowded but equally fascinating way to appreciate the culture.

ℹ️ Practical

Kyoto's central location makes it relatively easy to reach from Kansai International Airport (KIX). A one-way N'Express bus costs approximately ¥2,150 and takes around 90 minutes directly into Kyoto Station. If you arrive at Osaka or Nagoya stations instead, the Shinkansen (bullet train) is an excellent option, costing roughly ¥3,700 from KIX to Kyoto in about 45 minutes. For optimal timing, aim for early morning arrivals and late afternoon departures to maximize daylight hours. Note that public transportation operates well into the night, so you can comfortably explore until around 8 PM before heading back to your connecting flight or train.
