2. Cable Car Barn and Museum - 1201 Mason St., San Francisco, CA 94108. A small yet fascinating museum showcasing San Francisco’s iconic cable car system with models, artifacts, and history.
3. Fisherman's Wharf - PIER 39 at Fishermans Wharf, San Francisco, CA 94133. Home to sea lions basking in the sun and artisanal seafood stalls like Boudin Bakery for a quick sourdough sandwich.
Start your journey from Alcatraz Cruises Ferry Building Terminal (Pier 33) by walking east along The Embarcadero towards Market Street.
After approximately 10 minutes, head north up Market Street to Union Square. Walk one block west on Powell Street and turn left onto Mason Street. You will reach the Cable Car Barn and Museum in about a 5-minute walk.
From there, take the historic cable car down the hill to Fisherman's Wharf (Powell–Mason Line). The ride itself is part of the experience and will drop you off at the heart of Pier 39.
Boudin Bakery Café - 2001 Fishermans Wharf, San Francisco, CA 94133. A must for a quick yet memorable taste of sourdough French bread with clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. Perfectly timed to enjoy after exploring Pier 39.
Check out the historic SS Jeremiah O'Brien at PIER 45, right next to Fisherman's Wharf. This World War II Liberty Ship offers free tours and is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM.
For transport from SFO, take BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) direct to San Francisco’s downtown Powell St. station. The fare is around $9 one-way and takes approximately 35 minutes depending on the train schedule. Ensure you have a mobile app or ticket for seamless entry.
From SFO to Powell St., aim to arrive by 10 AM latest to maximize time at each location before the day's activities wind down.
For return transport, consider prebooking Uber/Lyft or checking schedules for BART trains heading back towards the airport.
