1. City of Arts and Sciences - Avenida de las Artes s/n (next to the Turia Gardens). This architectural marvel features futuristic buildings housing a science museum, an opera house, and an oceanographic park.
2. Mercado Central - Plaça del Marquès de l'Avall, 10. One of Europe's largest markets, it offers a vibrant mix of local produce, seafood, cured meats, and street food stalls under an impressive iron lattice ceiling.
3. Casa Valeriània - C/ Colón, 62. This quirky blue house is one of Valencia’s most iconic landmarks, designed to look like the famous painting "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" by Hokusai.
Start your journey at the City of Arts and Sciences, where you can spend about 30 minutes exploring the futuristic architecture from an elevated viewpoint. Walk south along Avenida de las Artes for approximately 15 minutes to reach Turia Gardens (Jardines del Turia). Take a short detour through this green oasis before heading west towards Mercado Central (about a 10-minute walk). After spending about 20-30 minutes in the market, head east across town to Casa Valeriània (around a 25-minute walk).
La Pepica - Carrer de la Malvarrosa, 49. A popular spot for quick bites, offering traditional Valencian tapas like pa amb oli (bread with olive oil and tomato) and seafood dishes that can be enjoyed on the go.
Many visitors miss out on the lesser-known but equally charming Jardí del Túria within Turia Gardens. This hidden gem is a tranquil spot to rest your legs between must-sees, offering views of the city’s skyline and a chance to relax in lush surroundings away from the crowds.
Transport: Valencia has an efficient metro system; it takes about 25 minutes (€1.80) by Metro Line A or B to reach City of Arts and Sciences from either Valencia Airport (VLC) or Joaquín Sorolla Station.
Timing Tips: Arrive early morning before the main crowds, and leave late afternoon for a quiet walk through Mercado Central. Allow extra time in case you need to grab some quick snacks.
